RED DEER – Alberta Female Hockey League (AFHL) action is back as the 2022-23 season kicks off on Saturday in the U18 AAA division.
Opening day in the AFHL features three games: Edmonton Jr. Oilers in Red Deer against the Sutter Fund Chiefs; Calgary Fire at home against the Rocky Mountain Raiders; and St. Albert Bauer Slash heading east to face the Lloydminster PWM Steelers.
The U18 AA and U15 AA divisions are slated to hit the ice on October 15, with 11 games on the schedule across the two divisions.
Ten U18 AA teams open their season on October 15. Edmonton Pandas will road trip to Lloydminster; Sherwood Park Fury host Peace Country Storm. Southern Express meet the Rocky Mountain Raiders in Okotoks. Calgary Fire Red and Calgary Fire White meet in a cross-city matchup. And North Central Impact finish out the day at home versus the St. Albert Sharks.
With six games on the schedule, all U15 AA teams will hit the ice on opening day.
Lloydminster Richardsons Jewellery Jr. Steelers welcome the Edmonton Pandas. Peace Country PCFAC Nor Lan Ram Storm travel to Olds to face the Grizzlys. In a South Division match-up, Rocky Mountain Raiders play the Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs in Red Deer. Sherwood Park Royals and Southern Express will travel to Calgary to play the Fire Red and the Fire White, respectively. And to round out the day, North Central Impact face off against the St. Albert Chargers at home.
A total of 402 games are scheduled across the 30 teams in each of the three divisions. Each division will also feature a Showcase weekend, all in Red Deer. The U18 AA Showcase Weekend is December 2-4; U15 AA December 9-11, and the U18 AAA February 3-5.
