Round 1 of the AFHL U18 AA Playoffs is complete, with four teams advancing after an opening round that featured strong offensive performances and several overtime thrillers.
With each matchup played in a best-of-three format, teams battled for the opportunity to continue their playoff run and move one step closer to the league championship. When the dust settled, the second-round matchups were officially set.
Lloydminster Steelers sweep North Central Impact (2–0)
The Lloydminster Steelers opened their playoffs with a convincing series win over the North Central Impact.
Lloydminster earned a 5–1 victory in Game 1 before closing out the series with a 5–2 win in Game 2 to complete the sweep.
The Steelers now advance to face the St. Albert Sharks in the second round.
Edmonton Ice sweep Sherwood Park Fury (2–0)
The Edmonton Ice secured their spot in the next round with two overtime victories against the Sherwood Park Fury.
Edmonton claimed Game 1 with a 4–3 overtime win and followed it up with another tight 3–2 overtime victory in Game 2 to complete the sweep.
The Ice will now meet the PCFAC Storm in Round 2.
Rocky Mountain Raiders sweep Southern Express (2–0)
The Rocky Mountain Raiders advanced with a pair of strong performances against the Southern Express.
Rocky Mountain opened the series with a dominant 5–0 shutout in Game 1 before closing things out with a dramatic 5–4 overtime victory in Game 2.
The Raiders now move on to face the Red Deer Chiefs in the second round.
Calgary Fire White defeat Calgary Fire Red (2–1)
The series between the Calgary Fire White and the Calgary Fire Red was the only matchup in the round to go the distance.
After dropping Game 1 by a 2–0 score, Fire White responded with a 4–2 victory in Game 2 before securing the series with a 3–2 overtime win in Game 3.
Calgary Fire White now advances to face the Airdrie Lightning in the second round.
