Opening weekend in AFHL and AEHL

RED DEER – The puck drops on the 2023-24 regular season this weekend in the Alberta Female Hockey League (AFHL) and the Alberta Elite Hockey League (AEHL).

The AEHL U18AAA and AFHL U18AAA divisions open tonight with one game on their respective schedules, while the AEHL U15AAA has two games on the docket.

The AFHL’s opening night features Calgary Fire and Rocky Mountain Raiders. In the AEHL, Lethbridge hosts Calgary Northstars (U18AAA), and in the U15AAA division, Lloydminster travels to Red Deer, and Lethbridge is in Medicine Hat to play the South East Tigers.

The schedules get very busy the rest of the weekend, with a total of 34 more games across the three divisions.

The AEHL U17AAA regular season starts on Oct. 6. The AFHL U18AA, AFHL U15AA, and AFHL U13AA divisions all begin their regular seasons the weekend of Oct. 13.

For the 2023-24 season, games in the AEHL (U18AAA, U17AAA and U15AAA) and AFHL (U18AAA, U18AA and U15AA) are being livestreamed exclusively on FloHockey (formerly HockeyTV). Regular season and playoff games can be viewed live on your computer or through the FloSports app on your mobile device.

In addition to the AEHL and AFHL regular season games this weekend, the Calgary Firestarter tournament is hosting the second of its three weekends of action, with U15AA female teams in action at Great Plains Arena in Calgary.
