U18 AA Regular Season Wrap-Up / Post Season Preview

The Alberta Female Hockey League’s U18 AA regular season has come to a close, with all teams advancing to the playoffs, including four who have received a bye in the first round.

The final U18AA standings at the end of the regular season are:

North Division:
1) Sherwood Park Fury (47 pts)
2) St. Albert Sharks (46 pts)
3) Edmonton Pandas (46 pts)
4) Lloydminster Elite Steelers (30 pts)
5) Peace Country PCFAC Storm (28 pts)
6) North Central Impact (25 pts)

South Division:
1) Calgary Fire White (57 pts)
2) Calgary Fire Red (55 pts)
3) Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs (34 pts)
4) Airdrie Lightning (28 pts)
4) Rocky Mountain Raiders (24 pts)

Sophy Aldred of Calgary Fire White finished atop the league in points (36) and goals (21) in 26 games, while Rory Bothwell (Sherwoord Park Fury) finished second in league points with 30. Kaylee Stagman of Calgary Fire White finished second in goals, one behind Aldred with 20.

Calgary Fire Red goaltender Megs Thiessen led the league in the GAA department with a 1.73 GAA. Dakota Smith of Aidrie took the top mark in the SV% category with a 0.942SV%, and was tied for the lead in shutouts with Calgary Fire White’s Hadley Stevens, who each had four. Sherwood Park’s Grace Mackenzie took the title for most wins by a goaltender with 13.

The top two teams in the north division and top three teams in the south division have received a bye for the first round of playoffs. These teams include the Sherwood Park Fury and St. Albert Sharks in the North, and Calgary Fire White, Calgary Fire Red, and Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs in the South.

Round one of the U18 AA playoffs will begin on Friday, March 4 – all series are best-of-three. The first round matchups and schedules are as follows:
