RED DEER – The playoffs have arrived for the Alberta Female Hockey League’s U18 AA division. Four teams have secured first-round byes, leaving eight teams to compete in the first round. This round begins tonight with all four matchups taking the ice.
The St. Albert Sharks and SPKAC Fury finished first and second in the North Division standings, respectively, earning them byes. The Sharks concluded the regular season with a record of 22-6-0-3, totalling 63 points. The Fury finished with a record of 17-10-2-2, earning 50 points.
In the South Division, Calgary Fire Red and Airdrie Lightning also secured byes by finishing in the top two spots. Fire Red ended the regular season with a record of 21-8-2-0, accumulating 63 points. The Lightning followed closely behind, finishing with a record of 21-9-0-1 for a total of 59 points.
Airdrie Lighting forward Ceder Thorburn led the U18 AA Division with an impressive total of 18 goals and 36 points over 29 games, averaging 1.24 points per game and earning the league’s scoring title. In the goaltender category, the competition heated up between two players. Calgary Fire Red goaltender Teah Mah-Fifi claimed the top spot in wins, finishing with twelve victories and a save percentage of .953. Meanwhile, Rocky Mountain Raiders goaltender Madilyn Juneau achieved the best goals-against average in the league at 1.56, narrowly edging out Mah-Fifi by just one-hundredth of a point. Juneau also recorded an impressive seven shutouts during the season.
All first-round series are best-of-three. Matchups are as follows:
North Division
(3) Lloydminster Steelers vs (6) North Central Impact
(4) PCFAC Storm vs (5) Edmonton Ice
South Division
(3) Calgary Fire White vs (6) Southern Express
(4) Red Deer Chiefs vs (5) Rocky Mountain Raiders
